Mike’s Minute: Techstreet Enterprise Tip of the Month— Managing seats for individual SDOs

Mike Visser

Hear from our Techstreet Enterprise Senior Product Manager, Mike Visser:

Techstreet offers access to standards from over 160 Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) through its Techstreet Enterprise platform. When licensing their content, many of the SDOs require customers to include one or more seats as part of that license. For each seat licensed, one user can have PDFs or online versions of documents from that SDO open at a time. So if you license 3 seats for a given SDO, 3 of your users can have content from that publisher open at any given time. One user can have multiple digital documents from that SDO open and still occupy only one seat. Each user occupies one seat, independent of the number of documents open.

When all seats for a particular Standards Developing Organization (SDO) are occupied, and a user attempts to open a PDF from the same SDO, they will see a message that they can’t open the document. The same thing will happen if the user tries to visit the document detail page for a document published by that SDO. As an administrator, a user might reach out to you saying they can’t open documents from a particular SDO because all seats are occupied. If you want to release the seat, you can go into Administration> User Administration> Manage Seats. In the Manage Seats section of Administration, you can browse through your licensed SDOs, and find the SDO for which all seats are occupied. In the example below, Michael is occupying one of the seats for British Standards. If all seats were occupied, an Administrator could click the Release link, located in the right-hand Release Seat column.

Techstreet Enterprise will ask you to confirm you want to release the seat, and if you click OK in the popup that loads, the seat will be released.

Once a seat is released, another user at your organization will be able to open digital versions of standards documents from that publisher.
